Attendance Policy

Any time a student is absent for 5 straight days,  a doctor's note will be required to excuse such absences.  On the 5th unexcused absence, credit will be withheld for the course.  After 8 absences( any combination of excused and unexcused) students will be required to have a doctor's note for each absence to be excused up to the maximum number of 10 absences.  No credit will be granted in any class to a student with over 10 absences in that class.  In order to receive credit for a course after 10 absences, a student must appeal to a school committee.  There are three levels of appeal: 1st level-committee consisting of administrators and counselors; 2nd level- the School Council; 3rd level- Laurens County Board of Education. A record of proceedings will be keep and due process given at each level of appeal.

This new attendance policy will be the new attendance policy for the 2nd semester of the 2002-2003 school year and it will supercedes all other previous attendance policies that may have been in effect.  This policy will remain in effect until changed by the Laurens County Board of Education.
